Why is a logo more expensive than a month of social posts?

Because you will use the logo for a decade and the posts for a week. Designers price the durability of the thing, not the time on screen.

Can I just use Canva?

For social posts, often yes, and that is honest advice. For a logo, Canva gives you template shapes other businesses are also using, and no vector source. The distinction is whether the thing needs to be uniquely yours.

What is a fair number of revision rounds?

Two is standard. Three is generous. Unlimited is a trap for both sides.

Only if you agreed to. Say it in writing before you pay, and ask for the editable source file by name.

What file formats should I insist on?

Vector (AI, EPS or SVG), high-resolution PNG with transparency, a one-colour version, and a version that works on dark backgrounds.

How long does a logo take?

One to three weeks for a small business, most of which is waiting for feedback rather than designing.

Should I hire a designer or an agency?

A designer for a defined deliverable. An agency when you need strategy, multiple disciplines and someone accountable for coordinating them.

Why did one designer quote $80 and another $600?

Because they quoted different jobs. One priced a mark; the other priced research, routes, revisions, file suite and ownership. Send both the same brief, including the revisions and files lines, and the quotes become comparable.

Does the designer handle printing?

Ask. Some do and manage the printer for you, some prepare print-ready files and stop there. Both are legitimate; only one of them means you do not deal with the printer.
